Questions to Ask Before You Buy

What's the total cost — not just the plate price?

Always check whether the price includes the £80 DVLA transfer fee and VAT. Some dealers show 'from £25' but the total with fees is much higher.

Does the dealer handle all the DVLA paperwork?

Some dealers sell you the plate and leave you to sort the transfer yourself. Others manage the entire process end-to-end.

What happens if the transfer is rejected?

Transfers can fail if the vehicle doesn't meet DVLA requirements. Check whether you get a full refund if the transfer fails.

Can I spread the cost?

Most dealers are cash/card only. Very few offer finance or buy-now-pay-later. If you're looking at a higher-value plate, check finance options.

Why Compare Suppliers?

Most UK number plate dealers access the same DVLA database of 60–75 million registrations. So the plates are broadly the same everywhere. What differs is the price you pay, the fees on top, and the level of service you get.
