What do dealers actually charge sellers?

Every dealer has a different fee structure. Some charge listing fees, others take commission, and a few charge nothing at all. Here's what the major dealers charge sellers — so you know exactly what you'll keep.

How dealer fees work for sellers

Most dealers don't deduct fees from the seller's payout. Instead, they add their commission on top of your asking price — so the buyer pays more, not you. For example, if you list a plate at £2,000 and the dealer adds 20%, the buyer pays £2,400 and you receive your full £2,000. The exception is auction platforms, which may charge listing fees and a percentage of the final sale price.

Fee information verified March 2026. Always confirm directly with the dealer.

Why get quotes from multiple dealers?

Different dealers, different prices

Each dealer values plates differently based on their customer base and current stock. A plate worth £500 at one dealer might fetch £800 at another.

Fee structures vary wildly

Some dealers charge listing fees, others take auction commission, and a few are completely free to list with. The only way to know is to compare.

Save hours of legwork

Instead of visiting 5 different websites, filling in 5 different forms, and waiting for 5 separate replies — do it all in one go through PersonalReg.

No obligation whatsoever

Getting a quote doesn't commit you to anything. Compare offers, take your time, and only proceed when you're happy with the deal.
